New York State will soon require websites and emails for local governments with populations greater than 1,500 residents move to the .gov domain. To prepare for this state requirement, the Village of Lansing applied for and has been approved to move the Village website and emails to a .gov domain that clearly defines the local government – hence our new, lengthy domain name shown below.
villageoflansingny.gov
The transition date has not been set at this time. Once the transition is scheduled, we will post information on this webpage, and we will notify residents via email and other notification methods.

Benefits of Moving to a .gov Domain
Moving to a .gov domain will provide a number of benefits for the Village, primarily focusing on increased trust, enhanced security, and improved public identification as an official government website and official government email addresses:
Enhanced Trust and Credibility:
A .gov domain immediately signals that the Village website or email is official and legitimate, fostering trust and confidence.
Reduced Risk of Impersonation:
Since .gov domains are reserved for verified U.S. government organizations, it becomes more difficult for malicious actors to create fake websites or email addresses that impersonate government entities, thus reducing the risk of phishing attacks and fraud.
Improved Public Identification:
A .gov domain makes it easy for the public to identify and access official government information and services, promoting transparency and accountability.
Enhanced Security:
.gov domains are subject to specific security protocols and requirements, including multi-factor authentication and encryption, which further protects Village data and systems.
Consistency and Branding:
Using a .gov domain provides a unified and professional image, reinforcing the Village’s identity online.
Access to Government Resources:
Adopting a .gov domain provides access to resources and support from government agencies like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
